THE 'DEPOT'
The
Lawrence Visitor Center was originally used as the
Lawrence Union Pacific Depot and completely restored in
March 1996. The trains that still come by every 15 minutes or so preserve the original atmosphere of the Depot and add to the uniqueness of the location. The site features an outdoor French-themed flower garden highlighted by Lawrence artist Shellie Bender’s “Mobility” sculpture. In the middle of the Depot’s circle drive is Lawrence sculptor Jim Brothers’ homage to Douglas County war veterans, “From the Ashes.”

WELCOME TO THE LAWRENCE ARTMARKET WEBSITE!
A bold new art fair series returns in 2007 to the Lawrence Visitor Center or
'Depot' (the former Union Pacific Depot),
which is
located just across the river from downtown Lawrence. However, this year
we will have new features that will add to the
bazaar-like atmosphere of the ArtMarkets. In addition to artists exhibiting and
selling their work outdoors from their tents, under the venue's trackside
canopy or inside, some artists will be selling their work directly from their own automobiles!
Plus, we will
also have food vendors.
As many as a hundred of the area's
creative artists and artisans are expected to participate during the entire ArtMarket
series, which will showcase work in a wide variety of media. From funky to exquisite, the ArtMarkets
will have it all!
