Click to view NORTH | SOUTH | EAST | WEST“Convergence” is an international art event including work by 18 women artists, 9 from Lawrence, Kansas and 9 from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is the second half of a cultural exchange art exhibition "Common Ground" that was held in May, 2002 in Ottawa, Canada. “Convergence” includes an art exhibition at the Lawrence Arts Center; “Paths & Structures” a community created installation and the “Labyrinth” an artist installation at KU Art and Design Gallery; workshops, panel discussions, a lecture, and additional events.

it gives me great pleasure to welcome all those who are participating in
“Convergence: Work by Canadian and U.S. Women Artists”.The events and exhibitions of “Convergence” are the fruit of an extended collaboration etween a group of artists here in Lawrence, Kansas, and another group who live and work in Ottawa, Canada. “Convergence” follows and builds on the success of “Common Ground: A Cross-Border Art Exhibition and Workshop Series”, held in Ottawa in May of 2002.
The common themes running through these two events and this ongoing artistic exchange re collaboration, juxtaposition, and participation. “Convergence” is a demonstration of the power of art to transcend borders, make new connections, and inspire new ways of seeing.
To our visitors from Ottawa, I thank you for your contribution to the cultural life of our city. To those of you who live, work, and create in Lawrence, I thank you for all you do every day to help us open our eyes, our minds, and our hearts.
