Lawrence Public Library Exhibits for November 2009
Entrances: Watercolors by Lawrence artist Julie Hammer.
Gallery & Cases: Student artwork by Lawrence Elementary and Junior High Schools. (Elementary, Nov. 7-15; Senior High, Nov. 18-30; Junior High, Dec. 3-16).
Lower Level: “Wanderlust and Watercolors” by Lawrence artist Deb Bettinger. Plein air and studio paintings of skyscapes, waterscapes and landscapes featuring the artist's travels abroad and locally.

15th annual Lawrence artists' open studios featuring the visual artists of Douglas County, Kansas.

Don't miss the 15th annual Lawrence ArtWalk! In what has become one of Lawrence's most eagerly anticipated annual arts events, many of Lawrence's finest artists will once again open their private home studios to the public to showcase their artwork. The ArtWalk will feature over 40 Douglas County artists (listed below) and is a fabulous opportunity to meet some of the area's most talented artists in their creative work environments, see demonstrations of their art and craft, and purchase locally produced art.
Artists will be displaying work in a wide variety of mediums including ceramics, drawing, jewelry, mixed media (2-D and 3-D), painting, photography and sculpture. Visit the Lawrence ArtWalk website in September to view samples of every artist's artwork, which will be available for sale.
Guide maps for the Lawrence ArtWalk, which is free and self-guided and features 20 locations, will be available in September at selected locations in Lawrence including Wink Eyewear, the hub of this year's ArtWalk.
Wink Eyewear will also be hosting a Preview Exhibition of artists' work between September 5 and October 11 and a Poster-signing Reception on September 19. [See other posts for more information.]

Don't miss the Poster-signing Reception hosted by Wink Eyewear to be held in honor of Lawrence artist Linda McKay, recipient of this year's Featured Artist Award, and to celebrate 15 years of Lawrence ArtWalks! Linda's artwork is featured on Lawrence ArtWalk 2009 promotional materials, including the invitational postcard, poster and guide map; and is shown on the Lawrence ArtWalk 2009 Featured Artist Award web page. She was selected for the award by fellow Lawrence ArtWalk 2009 artists.
Linda McKay was born and raised in Pennsylvania of Pennsylvania Dutch extraction; and was a computer programmer, economist, wife and mother, potter and a biochemist before becoming a painter and printmaker. She started painting with Louis Copt at the Lawrence Arts Center and has taken workshops in New Mexico, California, Maine and Umbria, Italy. Linda is a signature member of the Kansas Watercolor Society (KWS) and since 2000 has had paintings selected for KWS shows at the Wichita Art Museum, Lawrence Own-Your-Own shows and a Kansas City Artists' Coalition Regional Show.
On show at the reception will be the Lawrence ArtWalk 2009 Preview Exhibition featuring samples of the fabulous artwork you can expect to see during Lawrence ArtWalk 2009’s Open Studios weekend, October 10-11. The Preview Exhibition is on display between September 5 and October 11. [See other posts for more information.]
Taking place at the same time as the poster-signing reception are other downtown gallery openings/receptions, especially at Wonder Fair Gallery/Shoppe/Studio, 803 Massachusetts.

NEW KAC WEBSITE PAGE FOCUSES ON RESOURCES FOR ARTISTS*
A new page, Artist Resources & Opportunities, has been created on the Kansas Arts Commission website that provides online resources and opportunities for artists working in all mediums. Apart from listing KAC's own announcements and other KAC resources, it lists a multitude of external sites that include calls for proposals, calendars and directories, and grant and fellowship opportunities.
