FYI: Earlier this year the Lawrence Arts Commission changed its name to the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission. Note that the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission's website does not fully reflect the name change yet. John Wysocki, Director The Center For Art

Has the reason for the name change been released? Do you know what it is? The woman replacing Michael Tubbs is not shown on website either.

I believe the reason the name was changed was to make the commission appeal to a wider constituency and maybe even accommodate a more diverse program of events or activities. I do not know why the name could not have remained as the Lawrence Arts Commission since the 'Arts' is precisely what this entity is supposed to be focussed on. Also, the term 'culture' or 'cultural' is meaningless since everything a society does is cultural in nature... but it's simply a marketing buzzword used by those that seem to be 'in the know' to appeal to those members of the public that maybe are not 'in the know' or lack (an appreciation of) this thing called 'culture.' The Commission's liaison is now Diane Stoddard, Assistant City Mangager, 832-3400. John Wysocki, Director The Center For Art
